Kankakee County Animal Ordinances

LEASH LAWS apply throughout Kankakee County, both within the municipalities and in the unincorporated portions of the County.

RABIES VACCINATION AND REGISTRATION.  All dogs and cats 4 months of age and older must have a current rabies vaccination and Kankakee County Registration and Tag.  Illinois State Law mandates that rabies vaccinations must be given by a licensed veterinarian.  If your pet receives a rabies vaccination from a veterinarian who does not carry Kankakee County Registrations/Tags, it is the owner's responsibility to contact Kankakee County Animal Control within 30 days of vaccination for instructions on obtaining Kankakee County Rabies Tag for their pet.  It is also the pet owner's responsibility to have their pet re-vaccinated for rabies and registration renewed with the County when the pet's current rabies vaccination expires.

MICROCHIPS.  All dogs and cats in Kankakee County are required to be microchipped by the age of 9 months.

BREEDER REGISTRATION.  Persons in possession of 3 or more breedable pets (dogs and/or cats, capable of reproduction) shall register with Kankakee County Animal Control.

The greatest need for the animals is donations from you!

We have outgrown our shelter and are very limited on the resources we would like to offer the community. By donating to the shelter and organizations like B.A.R.K.- we can work towards building a new shelter and resource center to include quarantine rooms for sick animals and discount services for spay/neuter, vaccination, microchipping, etc. Please help us better serve you by donating today!

B.A.R.K.
Because Animals Really Kount, Inc

A private 501c3 fundraising group working to raise
money to benefit  the Kankakee County Animal Control

This group is a separate entity, but has partnered with Kankakee County Animal Control
B.A.R.K. is an organization developed by caring staff and individuals like you to help deserving animals in need! This group facilitates fundraising opportunities in which 100% of the proceeds go towards developing a new and improved shelter and resource center for the community. KCAC was originally built as a holding facility and is VERY limited in what it is able to provide. A new shelter would allow for ample quarantine rooms for sick animals, adoption facilities for visiting with and maintaining adoptable animals and providing discount services like spay/neuter, vaccination, microchipping, etc. to the community.
